Resources and Tools

Methodological guides, utilities, and the documentary corpus of the research.

To better understand how a family tree is structured and to facilitate your own research, we have compiled these classic methodologies, useful tools, and the complete bibliography of the sources used in this project.

1. Family Researcher's Kit

To transform the visitor into an active historian, we have designed this standardized documentary corpus. These methodological tools will allow you to collect, validate, and preserve family memory with professional rigor.

2. Genealogical Methodology

Explanation of the international numbering systems used in the organization of this tree.

🌳 Sosa-Stradonitz Numbering System (Ahnentafel)

This method is the standard for numbering ancestors in an ascending genealogy. It allows you to mathematically identify the relationship of any person to the base subject (Proband).

  • No. 1: It is the base person of the tree (You).
  • Father: Always carries double the child's number (2n).
Example: The father of 1 is 2. The father of 2 is 4.
  • Mother: Always carries double the child's number plus one (2n + 1).
Example: The mother of 1 is 3. The mother of 2 is 5.

Rule: All men have even numbers and all women have odd numbers.

⬇️ Descendant Numbering System

Used to list all descendants of a common ancestor to the present. A number is assigned to each generation and a digit to each child according to their birth order.

Example: 4/1213

  • 4: Fourth generation.
  • 1: First child of the ancestor.
  • 2: Second child of the previous.
  • 1: First child of the previous.
  • 3: Third child of the previous.
🔤 Soundex System (Phonetic Search)

Soundex is a phonetic index system, not strictly alphabetical. It was fundamental in old censuses to group surnames that sound alike but are spelled differently (e.g., Smith, Smyth).

Usefulness: Vital for tracing immigrants whose surnames were misspelled upon arriving at the port.

3. Researcher's Tools

📅 Historical Age Calculator

Calculate the exact age of an ancestor on a specific date (e.g., age at marriage).
